AIGA's mission is to advance designing as a professional craft, strategic tool and vital cultural force. Founded as the American Institute of Graphic Arts in 1914, AIGA is the oldest and largest membership association for professionals engaged in the discipline, practice and culture of designing. AIGA now represents 22,000 designers through national activities and local programs developed by 59 chapters and 240 student groups. I served as the Co-chair of the New York Chapter Mentoring Program from 2003-2006 and board member and officer on the New York Chapter Board of Directors from 2006 to 2008. As a board member, I organized two educational conferences, two Fresh Dialogue events that showcased new design talent and emerging ideas, and the 2007-2008 Small Talk Series.
